Former Jaycee presidents, Nancy Sexton and Jack Witt, are organizing a program called GoodWill Workouts. GoodWill Workouts are not just an affordable, great way to get in shape, it's a way to give back to the community. Nancy and Jack will donate 10% of our proceeds towards a local community organization. From February thru May, those proceeds will be donated to the UCNH Jaycees. 

Join them on Saturday, February 18th ad 7am for a free trial workout (must RSVP to info@realifefitness.com). After that, workouts will be every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 7am in Beeman Park. You can sign up for 4 weeks for $200, or the total 12 week program for $555. Anyone joining after the start rate will receive a prorated plan based on $20 per workout.

]]><![CDATA[Relay for Life 2012]]>Tue, 14 Feb 2012 12:31:44 -0800http://www.ucnhjaycees.org/1/post/2012/02/relay-for-life-2012.htmlThe Relay For Life of Studio City‐North Hollywood will be held on May 19‐20, 2012 at Walter Reed Junior High School. Teams of 5-20 people create a relay by taking turns walking, running, or strolling around the track for 24 consecutive hours. Participants will camp out with family and friends, enjoying the music, entertainment, food and friendship while building team spirit to help in the fight against cancer. It is a 24‐hour event, which symbolizes the difficulty that cancer patients face in just one 24‐hour period.

During the event, we honor cancer survivors at opening ceremonies at 9:00 AM as they walk the traditional first lap. At 9:00 PM the lights go out for our Luminaria (candle lighting) ceremony where we honor those who have won the battle and remember those who didn’t. The event culminates with a powerful Fight Back Closing Ceremony as we continue in the fight even after Relay is over. This 24‐hour celebration unifies the Studio City‐North Hollywood communities for a cause that touches everyone. It will make you laugh, cry and be forever changed.

The UCNH Jaycees are going to be a big part of this year's Relay for Life of Studio City & North Hollywood! Sunny Valencia has signed on to be the community sponsorship chair, and Wade Trefethen will be the team development chair. We are aiming to get as many people from our community involved with this year's event.

Good Girls Give is a non-profit organization that aims to give individuals with severe disabilities the chance to receive their 'Dream Day'. It was founded in 2009 by Laurie Green after she discovered a long lost friend was diagnosed with Locked-In Syndrome. This disease made it impossible for him to walk or talk for himself. With the help of generous donors, Good Girls Give was able to donate equipment and physical training that insurance would not cover. Good Girls Give was also able to arrange a 'dream day' for him and his kids. Since then, Good Girls Give has made it a mission to provide others with disabilities their very own 'dream day'.

Please join us in helping Good Girls Give continue to make dreams come true.

I was asked to be the President of the UCNH chapter starting in 2011.  A great quote by Mark Twain and a motto I try to live by (and encourage others to as well) is: “Really great people make you feel that you, too, can become great.” 

The purpose of the UCNH Jaycees is to make a difference in our community whether it’s volunteer work, fund-raising with charities, or facilitating community service projects.  We also focus on leadership and business skills, which will enhance personal growth and development.   And finally, we like to embrace our city’s diversity through international involvement.
